DAAD P.R.I.M.E. - Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience

In 2014 the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) initiated the programme "Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience" (PRIME) to support the international mobility of postdoctoral researchers by temporary positions at German universities in place of conventional scholarships. The programme has been funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union (EU/FP7/Marie Curie Actions/COFUND).

Highly qualified early stage researchers will be supported for 18 months. Being employed by a German university, the successful applicants will spend the first 12 month at a guest institution abroad, followed by a compulsory reintegration phase at the German host institution. Exceptions of this timeline are due to social insurance reasons. In this case the first month has to be spent at TU Berlin, followed by 12 months abroad and returning to TU Berlin for the remaining 5 months. The total duration remains unchanged at 18 months.

Please note that only such projects are funded that are independent and not simply a continuation of the doctoral research project. This can also be shown by changing into a different research environment. Please note the selection criteria of the P.R.I.M.E. comittee provided by DAAD on their website. Here, DAAD stresses the importance of publications. Not having your own research published will diminish your chances drastically. Furthermore, you will have to attach a realistic schedule and profound methodology in order to succeed with your application.

Applications can be submitted until 30 August 2019 for a starting date between 1 May 2020 and 1 September 2020.

You can find the call and information on the application procedure here.

If you are interested to choose TU Berlin as a host institution please contact the TU-DOC-Office and follow the following administrative instructions:

Administrative notes P.R.I.M.E.

As a prerequisite for a complete application to the DAAD, applicants need a declaration of TU Berlin as a host institution. To receive that declaration TU-internals (employees and/or students) can access the electronic project notification website through their TUB-Login and file the project notification there, all others and TU-externals need to apply through the hosting chair at TU Berlin. The chair needs to note down under "Ergänzende Hinweise zum Antrag" your name and state that the chair is applying for you, the applicant. All required signatures are needed for the project notification and fast track is NOT possible.

Please state under "Förderprogramm" the P.R.I.M.E. program.

The following points provide orientation, which formalities need to be followed:

  • Fill out the Electronic Project Notification (signature process via chair, please s.o.)
  • Upload the DAAD application in copy as an attachment to the electronic project notification
  • State a valid e-mail address

Applicants that were not employed in the past year at TU Berlin have to additionally upload the following:

  • a current CV
  • university diplomas, degrees and doctoral degree certificate (which has to be presented the latest at the beginning of the funding period)

Please note that the process at TU Berlin can take 2-3 weeks. We therefore recommend to take care of the necessary documents at an early stage.

Further information can be found in the declaration of the host institution for the application.

Please contact the TU-DOC Office with questions regarding administrative aspects of P.R.I.M.E.
