Applications for post-doc grants
The TU Berlin seeks to advance outstanding junior PhD researchers for a maximum of 3 years after their PhD in the next stages of their career and provides support by ensuring financing for preparation of an application to the DFG for funding for a temporary position as principal investigator or for comparable programs. The submission deadline is 15 October 2019. The applicants have the task of convincing the members of the Strukturkommission (Structural Committee) of their research project with a five-minute lecture. The presentation will be held on 20 Novemeber 2019. More information here.
Applications for Initial acquisition of third-party funding
This funding instrument aims to help newly appointed professors to access third-party funding and support them in developing their Chair with the aid of third-party funded projects. Also, junior researchers (masters or comparable qualification), who have not yet obtained a doctorate, can apply for support as well. The submission deadline is 15 October 2019. Apply now for the proMotion training program for female doctoral researchers! Training, exchange and networking for all women working on a doctoral degree at TU Berlin. ProMotion training starts again in the winter term 2019/2020 and offers a series of workshops on topics like time and self-management, networking, setting goals and career orientation. The deadline for application is 13 October, 2019. The program language is German in the winter term and English in the summer term. RISE Germany 2020 – Forschungspraktikanten aus Nordamerika, Großbritannien und Irland für Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden in Deutschland

RISE Germany vermittelt Bachelorstudierende von nordamerikanischen, britischen und irischen Hochschulen für einen Forschungsaufenthalt an deutschen Hochschulen oder außeruniversitären Forschungseinrichtungen. Der DAAD unterstützt die in den Sommermonaten stattfindenden Forschungspraktika mit Stipendien, finanziert durch Mittel des Auswärtigen Amts und durch institutionelle Kooperationen. Jährlich werden so ca. 300 Praktika vermittelt. Die Aktuelle Frist zur Angebotsabgabe ist der 15. Oktober 2019. Mehr Informationen zum Programm. Fulbright doctoral program for research stays in the USA
Until 01 October 2019, the Fulbright doctoral program is open for applications from German early stage researchers who are planning to carry out a 4-6 months research project at a higher education institution in the US from Mai 2020 on. The scholarship covers for example living and travel costs, health and casualty insurance, as well as a free visa service. You can find more information here.
Young Entrepreneurs in Science - How much start-up is in your PhD project?
The four day-long workshop 'How much start-up is in your PhD project' is taking place on 07-08 and 28-29 October 2019 and is focussed around the question: What if I had to live on my doctoral thesis tomorrow? Young Entrepreneurs in Science offers creative workshops in design thinking and pitching as well as a dialogue with and coaching by science founders. Participation is free and registration is possible until 27 September 2019 here.

The International Postdoc Initiative: Ausschreibung
The International Postdoc Initiative (IPODI) is part of the gender equality initiative of the Technische Universität Berlin that aims to increase the number of women in leadership positions in science and research.
The sixth call for applications offers four two-year fellowships and is open between 27 June and 17 September 2019. More information can be found here.

Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) strebt eine stärkere Berücksichtigung von Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen in der KI-Forschung an. Es sollen qualifizierte Frauen aus den Fachbereichen Informatik, Mathematik, Physik, Linguistik, Neuro- und Kognitionswissenschaften, Psychologie oder angrenzender Fachgebiete sowie aus KI-bezogenen Spezialisierungen in Anwendungsgebieten gefördert werden, um die Forschung zum Thema KI in Deutschland weiter voranzubringen und um die verantwortungsvolle Beteiligung von herausragend qualifizierten Frauen im Wissenschaftssystem weiter zu erhöhen. Gesammelte Promotionsrituale - Ein Grund zum Feiern

(in German)Von Comics über Rapsongs bis hin zu klassischen Textbeiträgen: Die Jury des Online-Wettbewerbs zum Thema Promotionsrituale konnte sich über kreative Einreichungen freuen. Vom 24. April bis zum 30. Juni 2019 wurde auf Initiative der Arbeitsgruppe „Pro-Motion“ der Jungen Akademie nach unterschiedlichen Ritualen gesucht, mit denen der Abschluss der Promotion gebührend gefeiert wird. Die fünf aus Sicht der Jury kreativsten und überzeugendsten Beiträge zum Thema Promotionsrituale werden ab heute auf der Website promotionsrituale.diejungeakademie.de präsentiert.

Die Hans-Böckler-Stiftung schreibt erneut den Maria-Weber-Grant für herausragende Wissenschaftler*innen in der Postdoc-Phase aus. Zielgruppe sind Juniorprofessor*innen und Habilitand*innen aus allen Fachgebieten.
Die Bewerber*innen können für bis zu 12 Monate eine Vertretung beantragen, die Teile der Aufgaben in der Lehre übernimmt, um sich so Freiräume zur Durchführung ihrer Forschung zu verschaffen. Es werden Mittel zur Bezahlung der Teilvertretung von pauschal 20.000€ pro Semester gewährt. Die Bewerbungsfrist ist der 15. September 2019. Mehr Informationen.

Ab dem 02. September 2019 bietet das Team von Coachingzonen Wissenschaft ein zweiwöchiges, kostenloses Online-Promotionscoaching bzw. Schreibcoaching für alle Promovierenden an. Die „Challenge“ der Schreib-Challenge ist, täglich und verbindlich zu schreiben. DAAD P.R.I.M.E. - Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience
The DAAD offers a program funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) to support postdoctoral researchers of all nationalities who see their long-term career perspective in Germany. Applications can be submitted until 30 August 2019 for a starting date between 1 May 2020 and 1 September 2020.
Scholarships for female doctoral students of the TU Berlin
The advisory board of the Gender Equality Officer at TU Berlin awards six scholarships for completing a doctoral degree (PAS) every semester to early-stage female researchers. The scholarships start on 01 October 2019. The funding is usually granted for a period of six months. It usually amounts to 1,000€ per month. In addition, a blanket amount for child-care or for the care of relatives in need of 200€ per month may be granted. The application deadline is 18 August 2019. More information can be found here.

Free Open Access Publishing with Wiley
At the beginning of 2019, the first DEAL contract was signed with Wiley for the term 2019–2021. Since 1 July, all research or review articles (“original article” or “review article”) submitted by TU members as “corresponding authors” are eligible to be published Open Access. For authors there are no costs for Open Access when publishing with Wiley, as the costs of the contract are covered by the university library. More information.

Das Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF) strebt eine stärkere Berücksichtigung des großen Potenzials, die umfassendere Beteiligung und den stärkeren Einfluss von Frauen in der KI-Forschung an. Den Wissenschaftlerinnen soll die Möglichkeit gegeben werden, eigenständige Forschung zu betreiben, ihr wissenschaftliches Profil zu stärken und die Sichtbarkeit in der Community zu erhöhen. Minerva Fellowship Programme - Doctoral fellowships
The Minerva Fellowship Programme enables Israeli and German scientists to complete a research residency at institutions in the respective other country. Minerva Fellowships are not only intended to promote research but also to strengthen the cultural and scientific exchange between Germany and Israel, but also to provide an opportunity for junior scholar to further their scientific background while they conduct a research project. The doctoral fellowships are granted for a maximum of 24 months and the minimum funding period amounts to six months. The application deadline is 26 June 2019. More information here.
Promotionsbegleitende Zuschüsse im Rahmen eines interdisziplinären Graduiertennetzwerks zum Themenbereich "Maschinenbau der Zukunft"

Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftler, die sich mit Digitalisierung im Maschinenbau beschäftigen, können sich jetzt für die Teilnahme an einem Graduiertennetzwerk und einen damit verbundenen jährlichen Zuschuss von bis zu 50.000 € bewerben.
Es wird erwartet, dass sich die ausgewählten Kandidat*innen an jährlichen interdisziplinären, kooperativen Publikationen und Symposien mit Wissenschaft und Industrie beteiligen. Bis zum 20. Workshop: Verpackung gesucht! Erfolgreich präsentieren auf Konferenzen und in anderen wissenschaftlichen Kontexten

In diesem Seminar werden Techniken und Strategien, wie man sich und die eigene Arbeit authentisch und auch über konventionelle Methoden hinaus in Vorträgen, Postern und Fachgesprächen präsentiert, gezeigt und erprobt. Zusätzlich werden Spezifika wissenschaftlicher Konferenzen sowie Ideen und Regeln für erfolgreiche Netzwerkgestaltung erarbeitet. Der Workshop findet am 12. Juli 2019 statt. Research to Market Challenge - Competition for Research-Based Business Ideas
"Research to Market Challenge” is a competition for research-based product and business ideas from FU Berlin, HU Berlin, TU Berlin and Charité. The contest is hosted by the above-mentioned universities cooperating with Stiftung Charité, Ernst Reuter Gesellschaft, Humboldt-Universitäts-Gesellschaft and Berliner Sparkasse. The purpose of the “Research to Market Challenge” is to guide members and alumni of the participating institutions through the process of getting their thoughts about potential product or business out of their head, on to paper, and into an actionable plan for the first steps. The submission deadline for the current round of competition is 05 May 2019.

BIMoS PhD Award
The Berlin International Graduate School in Model and Simulation based Research (BIMoS) would like to honor the best dissertation among the TU doctoral students, who have completed their doctorate in 2018 on a topic within the area of data science and data-based modeling and simulation. Einstein Foundation - Funding programs
Until 27 May 2019 it is possible to apply for several funding programs of the Einstein Foundation. The Einstein Junior Fellow offers excellent young researchers the opportunity to remain employed by their current university on a temporary basis. The Einstein International Postdoctoral Fellow offers high-achieving young researchers in Berlin, who already have funding, the chance to include a postdoctoral researcher from abroad in their junior research group and to obtain additional support for material resources. The Einstein-Zirkel-Programm offers researchers in Berlin the opportunity to participate in Berlin-wide, theme-based collaborations across institutions which they organise themselves. Please note that the internal deadlines of the universities is 08 April 2019.

Information Session on European Research Council (ERC) Starting and Consolidator Grants
The session on 2 April 2019 addresses researchers who are interested in applying for an ERC Starting or Consolidator Grant (see erc.europa.eu). You will learn more about the funding schemes and application requirements of the ERC. Information Session on the European Reserach Council (ERC) for Female Researchers
With different funding schemes the ERC funds innovative basic and pioneering research of outstanding Principle Investigators (PIs) and their teams. It is open to all research disciplines (see erc.europa.eu). The information session on 1 April 2019 addresses female researchers who are interested in learning more about the funding schemes and application requirements of the ERC. Proposals for Measures for the Implementation of TU Berlin’s Strategy for the Advancement of Junior Scholars
As part of the preparation of an implementation plan for the Strategy for the Advancement of Junior Scholars at TU Berlin suitable measures are currently being discussed. Also, there is now the opportunity to submit proposals for measures through our online form: tu-doc.de/massnahmen. The submitted proposals will be discussed by the working group for the Implementation of TU Berlin's Strategy for the Advancement of Junior Scholars and could possibly be a part of the final implementation plan.
Network of Junior Research Group Leaders at TU Berlin
The Junior Research Group Leaders (JRGLs) at TU Berlin have set up a network for mutual support and cooperation in univeristy matters and for giving themselves a common voice in political questions and goals. Internal meetings on a regular basis are supposed to give an opportunity to exchange and discuss up-to-date issues and questions.

The TU-DOC Office at TU Berlin offers a workshop program starting March 2019 for international female doctorate students, as well as a "virtual female doctoral students group" to facilitate a successful doctorate. Career Day 2019 for PhD Candidates and Researchers
The Freie Universität Berlin will be holding its seventh annual Career Day for PhD Candidates and Researchers on 19 February 2019. The Career Day is organized by doctoral candidates and post-doctoral fellows of the Freie Universität Berlin and the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and is coordinated by the Dahlem Research School, Humboldt Graduate School and the TU-DOC Office. Under the theme Sailing ahead – What your PhD can do for you the Career Day is aimed at the doctoral-candidates who are interested in discovering where their degree can lead them following graduation and how a doctoral degree and the essential skills acquired along the way can be translated into a successful career both inside and outside of academia. Open Access Publication Fund
TU Berlin is once again assuming the article processing charges for scientists who publish their research results in open access publications. In 2019, 100,000 euros are available in the open access publication funds to finance papers in open access journals, as well as 100,000 euros for the publication of open access monographs and edited volumes. Event: Challenges and Future Perspectives for Female Junior Scholars
Achieving gender equality is, therefore, of particular importance for the strategic advancement of junior scholars and is an explicit goal of both TU Berlin’s Strategy for the Advancement of Junior Scholars and its Strategy for Gender Equality. The objective of this event is to introduce female junior scholars to inspiring female role models at TU Berlin, and to provide them with an opportunity to meet established female academics as well as other female junior scholars to discuss the challenges and future perspectives of an academic career. This funding instrument aims to help newly appointed professors to access third-party funding and support them in developing their Chair with the aid of third-party funded projects. Also, junior researchers (masters or comparable qualification), who have not yet obtained a doctorate, can apply for support as well. The submission deadline is 29 January 2019. Applications for post-doc grants
The TU Berlin seeks to advance outstanding junior PhD researchers for a maximum of 3 years after their PhD in the next stages of their career and provides support by ensuring financing for preparation of an application to the DFG for funding for a temporary position as principal investigator or for comparable programs. The submission deadline is 29 January 2019. The applicants have the task of convincing the members of the Strukturkommission (Structural Committee) of their research project with a five-minute lecture. Summaries of the Round Table Discussions for Junior Scholars in the Winter Semester 2018

Together with the TU-DOC Office for Doctoral and Postdoctoral Services, Vice President for Strategic Development, Junior Scholars, and Teacher Education Angela Ittel held five round tables during the 2018/19 winter semester, which junior scholars were invited to attend. Each round table was oriented towards a specific target group. Lively discussions with the participants resulted in numerous contributions and suggestions for further developing and expanding support and offers for junior scholars at TU Berlin. These resulted in the following four summaries.
The TU Berlin receives a graduate grant from the Joachim Herz Foundation

The TU Berlin, the University of Hamburg, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and the TU Dresden are the first participants in the program "
Graduiertenförderung vernetzen" of the Joachim Herz Foundation. From January 2019, the four universities will receive funding of 250,000 euros, which they will be able to use over a period of five years to provide their science doctoral students with more efficient support. TU Berlin acquires EUR 400,000 funding to promote the careers of doctoral candidates
TU Berlin started the "Training the mindSET - Improving and Internationalizing Skills Trainings for Doctoral Candidates" (mindSET) project in fall 2018 with the help of EUR 400,000 funding from the Erasmus+ program and will be working over the coming three years on developing a curriculum for these transferable skills with its strategic partners - the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Politecnico di Milano and Warsaw University of Technology. The aim is to better prepare doctoral candidates within the STEM subjects for different labor markets.
Extension of the Collaborative Research Center 910 on control of nonlinear systems & Approval of the new “Bioactive Peptides – Innovative Aspects of Synthesis and Biosynthesis” Research Training Group
The German Research Foundation (DFG) has approved, for the third time, funding for the Collaborative Research Center 910 on control of nonlinear systems, with TU Berlin being the host university. Coordinator of the Collaborative Research Center is Professor Dr. Sabine Klapp. The DFG has also approved the funding of the new Research Training Group “Bioactive Peptides – Innovative Aspects of Synthesis and Biosynthesis” on 9 November 2018. Spokesperson will be Professor Roderich Süssmuth. The Research Training Group will conduct research in the areas of molecular biology, biochemistry, biological chemistry and bioanalytics.
Excellent doctorade in Mechanical Engineering
Dr.-Ing. Karsten Gorden has been awarded the Manfred Hirschvogel Prize for his outstanding scientific work. The prize, worth 5,000€, is awarded by the Manfred Hirschvogel Stiftung. This award honors the best doctorates in Mechanical Engineering at all TU9 universities each year. Karsten Gordon received the award as part of the graduation ceremony of the Faculty V on 23 November 2018 at TU Berlin.

Berlin Funding for Graduates (Elsa-Neumann-Stipendium des Landes Berlin): Deadline 23 November 2018
Pursuant to the Berlin state Act on the Promotion of Junior Achievement in Academic, Scientific and Artistic Fields, scholarships are awarded for doctoral students as well as for the completion of dissertations (in the final stages) that are being written at one of the universities in Berlin. Applicants must be able to demonstrate performance that far exceeds the average, especially in their undergraduate degrees. There must be reason to expect that applicants’ academic projects will make a significant contribution to the body of research in the field. The application may be written in English as well as in German. The deadline for the current call for applications is 23 November 2018 at 12:00.

This workshop describes the key habits that our research and experience with thousands of students shows, will make a difference to how quickly and easily you complete your "Research Higher Degree" (RHD). The concept of 'good work' plays a key role in current socio-political conflicts with work. But what is 'good work'? This question is asked by the members of the Junge Akademie Prof. Lena Hipp, Ph.D. Michael Bies together with the doctoral program "Gute Arbeit" of the WZB. In a short film they initiate, scientists approach the concept of 'good work' from a social-historical, social-scientific and philosophical perspective.

Environmental Policy Fellowship
The Israel Public Policy Institute (IPPI) offers young professionals from Germany a unique opportunity to work alongside Israel's leading environmental policy makers to promote the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Israel. Fellows will have a chance to work with high-level professionals and have a meaningful impact on the future of environmental policymaking in Israel. In addition to their work with the Ministry and HBS Israel, the Fellows will complete a policy paper that focuses on a common environmental challenge in Israel and in Germany. Until 04 November 2018 young researchers in Berlin can apply with
practical ideas from innovative fundamental research in the field of mobility. The six most promising submissions will be presented on 22 November infront of a distinguished jury of experts. The three first-placed presentations will each receive EUR 10,000 in prize money. In addition, this year, the six finalists also have the opportunity to apply for one of three validation grants of up to EUR 50,000 each. More information here.

Career Day for International Junior Researchers 2018
On 01 November 2018, the TU alumni program and the TU-DOC office are holding the second Career Day for International Junior Researchers. It is aimed at giving international PhD students and PostDocs an insight on the variety of academic and non-academic career prospects on the German job market as well as informing about requirements for non-EU nationals to work in Germany. The Helmholtz Center Geesthacht - Center for Materials and Coastal Research (HZG) will host its competition "Verständliche Wissenschaft" for the twelfth time on 14 February 2019. DAAD P.R.I.M.E. - Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience
The DAAD offers a program funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the European Union to support postdoctoral researchers of all nationalities who see their long-term career perspective in Germany. Applications can be submitted until 31 August 2018 for a starting date between 1 April 2019 and 1 August 2019.
Doctoral degree completion scholarships for early-stage female researchers
The advisory board of the Gender Equality Officer awards six scholarships for completing a doctoral degree (PAS) every semester to early-stage female researchers at TU Berlin, with two scholarships being awarded for each science sector (engineering sciences, natural and life sciences, humanities and social sciences). Funding is usually granted for a period of six months. For funding starting from October 2018 on, the application deadline is 31 August 2018. Find more information here.

Die GEW veranstaltet vom 15. bis 17. Juni 2018
ein Seminar in Erkner bei Berlin, um mit Promovierenden, Promotionsinteressierten sowie Expert*innen aus Hochschule und Forschung über den Stellenwert der Promotion als Berufsqualifikation zu diskutieren. Die vielfältigen Qualifikationsanforderungen und Bedingungen werden dabei ebenso kritisch in den Fokus gerückt wie die Motive und Realitäten der Teilnehmer*innen. Fellow Programm - Freies Wissen
Bereits im April wird die Ausschreibung für das Programmjahr 2018/2019 veröffentlicht. Die Ausschreibung soll Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und Nachwuchswissenschaftler aus allen Disziplinen ansprechen, die Offene Wissenschaft in der Praxis ausprobieren möchten. Bis zum 15. Mai 2018 werden Bewerbungen für die Fellowships angenommen.

Call for applications: Graduate-Level Research in Industrial Projects for Students (G-RIPS)-Berlin
The Graduate-Level Research in Industrial Projects (G-RIPS) Program provides an opportunity for high-achieving graduate-level students to work in teams on a real-world research project proposed by a sponsor from industry or the public sector. Each G-RIPS team is comprised of four international students (two from the US and two from European universities), an academic mentor, and an industrial sponsor. The research problem is always a real problem of serious interest to the sponsor and that offers a stimulating challenge to students.

Biprofessional Summer School SchreibHerausforderungen

Die Universität Bielefeld lädt am 27./28. September 2018 zur Biprofessional Summer School SchreibHerausforderungen ein. Die Summer School zielt darauf ab, eigene Schreibkompetenzen mit Blick auf spezielle Herausforderungen des Schreibens im akademischen Kontext zu reflektieren und weiterzuentwickeln. Angesprochen sind Promovierende sowie Postdoktorandinnen und -doktoranden verschiedener Fachdisziplinen, die in der LehrerInnenbildung tätig sind. Anmeldungen werden bis 30. April entgegengenommen.

Workshop "Diversity-centered teaching - An introduction"
As part of the International Week TU Berlin offers under the supervision of Vice-president Prof. Dr. Angela Ittel a workshop to discuss the topic of diversity-centered teaching on 27th April 2018. The event is part of the series "Get in contact…" that is designed to discuss diversity topics with members of TU Berlin. The course is targeted at interested beginners, who are teaching at TU Berlin or are involved into organizing teaching. The number of participants is limited to 20. Therefore, prior registration with until 25th April is required.

I, Scientist Conference on Gender, Career Paths and Networking
The conference is designed by and for students and young researchers in the natural sciences and mathematics with the mission to increase the visibility of female role models, introduce you to a variety of career options, and give you a dedicated time for networking and establishing useful contacts. Registration until 23rd April 2018 here.

Evening course - German for university and profession
PhD candidates, postdocs, international guest researchers and anyone too busy for German courses during the day are invited to take part in our evening German courses. The German courses leading to level A1, A2, B1 and B2 will focus on general language skills as well as communication at your job at university. The course takes place every Tuesday and Thursday from 17th April until 19th July 2018. The course fees amount to 250 €.

TU Travel Grants for Conferences
All doctoral candidates of TU Berlin who wish to participate actively in a conference may apply for a TU Travel Grant for Conferences as part of its Network of Doctoral Programs.
Applications may be handed in quarterly.

On 13 November 2017 a workshop will be held which offers practical tips,
tools and techniques for speaking to an audience successfully. You'll be coached by experienced professionals, who will assess your current skills
and guide you towards becoming a more confident and competent speaker and presenter. For the program very good language skills are required.

Prüfer für Plausibilitätsinterviews an der Akademischen Prüfstelle Peking (Volksrepublik China), 31. Oktober 2017 (PDF, 39,1 KB)
Die Akademische Prüfstelle (APS), eine gemeinsame Einrichtung des Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienstes (DAAD) und Auswärtigen Amtes mit Sitz im Kulturreferat der Deutschen Botschaft in Peking, ist mit der Aufgabe betraut, chinesische Bewerber für ein Studium in Deutschland hinsichtlich ihrer formalen Hochschulzugangsberechtigung sowie die Echtheit der dafür eingereichten Dokumente zu überprüfen. Mit den Studienbewerbern werden Plausibilitätsinterviews geführt. Für die Durchführung der Interviews werden Absolventinnen und Absolventen der Ingenieurwissenschaften aller Fachrichtungen baldmöglichst gesucht.

Das Maecenata Institut für Philanthropie und Zivilgesellschaftsforschung in Berlin lädt den wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchs - mit Bezug zur Zivilgesellschaftsforschung - zum Zusammenschluss im Forschungscollegium auf. Es bietet einen Ort der Vernetzung, des Austauschs und der Reflexion sowie Gespräche zu wissenschaftlichen Fragen. Das Collegium findet mehrmals im Jahr statt, wird vom Förderverein Zivilgesellschaftsforschung gefördert und ist interdisziplinär auf zivilgesellschaftliche Themen ausgerichtet. Es richtet sich insbesondere an Doktorand_innen, steht aber offen für alle Forschenden die ihre Abschlussarbeiten mit Bezug zur Zivilgesellschaft schreiben.

The TU Berlin offers a number of degree completion grants for international doctoral candidates in situations of need. The grants are financed through Stibet, the scholarship and counselling programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
