The so called BVG (abbreviation for Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) is the public local transportation network of Berlin. It is very well developed and will bring you everywhere in then city. If you buy a ticket, you may use any means of public transport in the complete local network: regional trains (RB), regional express trains (RE), city railway (S-Bahn), subway (U-Bahn), streetcars (Stra├čenbahn), and buses (Bus and Metro-Bus). The ticket is valid for a certain time (like 2 hours or a whole day) and you can change the means of transportation in between as often as you need to get to your destination.

Berlin and the surrounding areas are divided into three fare zones (A, B and C). Tickets are available for two fare zones (AB or BC) or the entire fare zone (ABC).

The webpage of the BVG with timetables, routes and maps is also available in English.

If you are enrolled as a doctoral candidate at TU Berlin and have paid the semester fee, your student ID will hold a label, which counts as your BVG-ticket the whole semester for the entire fare zone (ABC).
