Frist Round Table Discussion for Junior Scholars for members of structured doctoral programs and external doctoral candidates
On 19 October 2018, Vice President for Strategic Development, Junior Scholars, and Teacher Education Angela Ittel invites the members of structured doctoral programs and external doctoral candidates to the first discussion of the advancement of junior scholars at TU Berlin and suggestions for improvement, as well as ideas for measures to be taken. The invitation is also addressed to international participants, so the round table sessions are to be held in German and English. Applications for Initial acquisition of third-party funding
This funding instrument aims to help newly appointed professors to access third-party funding and support them in developing their Chair with the aid of third-party funded projects. Also, junior researchers (masters or comparable qualification), who have not yet obtained a doctorate, can apply for support as well. The submission deadline is 23 October 2018. Applications for post-doc grants
The TU Berlin seeks to advance outstanding junior PhD researchers for a maximum of 3 years after their PhD in the next stages of their career and provides support by ensuring financing for preparation of an application to the DFG for funding for a temporary position as principal investigator or for comparable programs. The submission deadline is 23 October 2018. The applicants have the task of convincing the members of the Strukturkommission (Structural Committee) of their research project with a five-minute lecture. The presentation will be held on 14 November 2018. More information here.
Verständliche Wissenschaft 2019

The Helmholtz Center Geesthacht - Center for Materials and Coastal Research (HZG) will host its competition "Verständliche Wissenschaft" for the twelfth time on 14 February 2019. We are looking for young scientists who have graduated in 2016 or 2017 and who demonstrate their talent in communicating their research results in a compact and comprehensible way to a broad audience. The event will be conducted in German only. The three best lectures will be awarded a total prize money of 5000 €. The deadline for applying to this year's competition is 31 October 2018. Career Day for International Junior Researchers 2018
On 01 November 2018, the TU alumni program and the TU-DOC office are holding the second Career Day for International Junior Researchers. It is aimed at giving international PhD students and PostDocs an insight on the variety of academic and non-academic career prospects on the German job market as well as informing about requirements for non-EU nationals to work in Germany. The Career Day offers a number of workshops and the opportunity to meet and get to know the speakers. More information on the event and on registration here.

UniWiND-Spezial für Promovierende und PostDocs

Die inhaltliche Zusammenarbeit der Graduierteneinrichtungen der UniWiND-Mitgliedsuniversitäten hat zur Entwicklung von fächer- und hochschulübergreifenden Konzepten und zum Austausch über Best-Practice-Beispiele geführt. Dieses gebündelte Expertenwissen wird seit 2014 in der UniWiND-Publikationsreihe zugänglich gemacht werden. Die beiden neuesten UniWiND-Speziale „Perspektiven nach der Promotion. Berufswege außerhalb der Wissenschaft. Teil 1: 13 Porträts“ und „Teil 2: Arbeitgeber im Gespräch“ richten sich direkt an Promovierende und Postdocs und sind hier online verfügbar.
Klaus Tschira Boost Fund

The German Scholars Organization e.V. (GSO) offers the "Klaus Tschira Boost Fund" for scientists in the fields of natural sciences, mathematics and computer science. The program is aimed at scientists at the beginning and in the middle of their careers (postdoc, junior and research group management, junior professors, tenure track, etc.). Workshop on the topic "Agile Personalführung für wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter/innen"

As part of the doctoral program, a workshop will be held on 19 November 2018 on "Agile Leadership for Research Associates", which is open to all academic staff. The workshop will be held by Svenja Neupert, who has already done excellent coaching in the network.

Coming out at work
The Career Service offers the event "Coming out at the workplace" in cooperation with the Queer Section of the AStA. The event will take place on 22 November 2018 and will be supervised by the speaker Andrea V. von Kopp.

The International Postdoc Initiative: Call for Applications
The fifth call for applications of the International Postdoc Initiative (IPODI) offers four two-year fellowships for international female researchers who want to pursue their research at TU Berlin. The call addresses excellent female researchers regardless of their nationality or age and is open to all fields of research represented at TU Berlin. The call will be open between 14 September and 14 December 2018. Learn more about it here.
Professional courses and language courses
As part of the program supported by the "Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD)" TU Berlin offers four to five part time scholarships in 2018. The scholarships are available for TU students who intend to visit professional courses and language courses abroad. Professional courses must include a teaching component and can be supported from a minimum of 5 days to a maximum of 6 weeks. Language courses at state universities abroad from 3 weeks to 6 months are eligible for support. In both cases the financial support may include travel expenses supported by a lump sum of 400 Euro as well as a lump sum of 500 EUR for course fees.
Applications may be handed in at TU-DOC Office at any time.
